Purchasing The Right Size Mountain Bike

Buying a new mountain bike is a thrilling experience for any mountain biker.  However, choosing a perfect mountain bike is not an easy task. At the time of purchasing it, you have to give the most consideratione to the size of the bike. Comfortable cycling over rough terrain orf rocky trails depends on the size of the bike.  The size of a bike depends o a large extent on the size of the person.

A mountain bike is combination of various parts and branded components. A biker should have a clear idea about the function of the parts. The basic parts of mountain bile are frame, frame materials, brakes, handlebars, shifters, paddles, wheels, saddles, crank and suspension system. The frame is the main component of all types of bicycle. The wheels and other component are fitted with the frame.  Other parts of it are adjusted with the frame.  Therefore, the bike size correlates closely to  the size of the frame.       There is a method of calculating what size of mountain bike is required for a person. It depends on the inseam of the person. How can you measure the inseam of a person? Collect a book that is about the width of the seat of the bike. Put off your shoes, stand with your back against a wall and then place the book firmly between your crotches. Measure the top of the book from the floor. That will be your inseam measurement.

Take your inseam and multiply it  with 0.59 & the result is the right size mountain bike for you. For example, your inseam is 40 inches, if you multiply it with 0.59, the result will be 23.6. Rounding off 23.6, we get 24. Therefore, the suitable size will be 24 inches. The distance between the crank and the top of the seat tube is the size of a frame. Some mountain bike manufacturers follow a slight different method to calculate the size of the frame. They calculate the size measuring from the crack center to seat tube center. However, it is not a problem. At the time of purchase, you can adjust the difference.

After getting the correct size mountain bike you have to adjust the saddle height and saddle position.  The perfect saddle height is required for efficient and comfortable pedaling. You have to sit squarely on the saddle. The ideal saddle height is five inches more than your trouser length. The top of the saddle must be plain as far as possible. Besides it, you have to adjust the handlebar reach, handlebar height and control positions in such a manner, so that these parts should remain well within your reach.

Wrong fittings of the parts and wrong size will cause many physical problems. The back ache, pain at knee, finger and hip joints are common pains among the riders whose use the wrong size mountain bikes. If you suffer from this type of pain, take advice from the physician. They will suggest tou, what type modification is required in the fittings of the bike.
