Using A Chain Tool

Do you have mountain bike chains but then you are having second thoughts about them because they easily get broken? As soon as your mountain bike chains get damaged, the best thing to do would be to get a new one as your replacement. But then if you think that your mountain bike chains can still be fixed, then by all means have them inspected and repaired. It is actually because of this that most mountain bikers ride their bikes carrying along the so-called chain tool. Consider the following to know how to use the chain tool for your bike’s broken chains:

1. What Your Chain is Made Of

Chain tools are actually made of three things. First, there are the side plates made from metal, the so-called rollers in between side plates and the so-called rivets which are the pins that let the rollers run smoothly in every turn.

2. What To Do When Your Chain Breaks

The instance your chain gets damaged, the first thing you will need to do is get rid of the busted link. After which you should replace it with a new link. To do it is so easy. All you will need to do is attach both ends of your broken chains then ride your mountain bike using shorter chains until you have found new replacements.

3. How To Throw A Broken Chain Link

When getting rid of a broken link, put it in your bike’s chain tool. After which twist counter clockwise while you anticipate the touching of the rivet pins and the chains.  Go on turning the chain tool until pins are taken out of the rollers. Just make it a point that the pins will not get out to the outer side plates. Last but not least, rotate the chain tool towards the opposite direction until it gets out of your rollers.

4. Handle The Broken Chain Very Gently

What is more, make sure that you set aside the chain tool on to the other side. After which, you must then try to work through the chains very quietly and at the same time, really tenderly. Make sure that you do this from one side to another. Following this, you will have to then extract the mountain bike’s inner side plates altogether with the roller.

5. Redirecting The Chains In Your Bike

The next step you will need to focus on is that of redirecting the chains in your mountain bike. Others choose to have the chain retaining device that aims to hold the chains on your mountain bike where they should be in the first place.  That way, it will be a lot easier for you when you need to redirect the bike’s chains or perhaps when you need to keep the chains in their spot.

Last of all; since you have already gotten rid of the broken or damaged chain links and you have likewise redirected the said chains, then it is now the time for you to put in place a new chain link. To do it, you will simply need to connect the new links to the broken ones.
